Here is a lovely antique calico print wrapper dress from the 1800s. A bit difficult to ascertain the exact date as these were worn for a few decades, this one is likely 1890s. These usually were worn belted, I did not get the belt when I purchased this many years ago. These dresses were designed to free Victorian women from the constriction of corsets and still keep them covered from ankle to neck. These were also known as Mother Hubbard dresses, named for the Kate Greenaway illustration from the Mother Goose nursery rhyme book published in 1881. These were also used as maternity dresses.

The top of the garment including the collar, the inside of the sleeve and underarm arm lined in an off white cotton. It does up with ten milk glass buttons. Pretty ruffle at the button line and ruffled collar and cuffs. Beautiful floral calico roller print in a lovely violet shade with white and black. Don't often see these in pretty colors, as they more often found in black, gray or brown.

Please rely on the following measurements for size, all given in inches. These are meant to flow over the body. I have taken these measurements without stretching it out.
Shoulders: 14 ½
Sleeves: 21
Armscye: 7 1/2
Cuff: 6
Bust: 40
Waist: 42
Hips: 44
Overall length: 51

Condition is very good. The fabric is very strong. There is some fading to the top back of the dress and the sleeves and shoulder area at the back. A little faded as well under the arms at the front.

Fabulous example of an early country wrapper dress, so charming.
