This is a gorgeous unused silk kimono that was bought by a world traveller during the 1960s.  This silk kimono still has its belt sewn into the interior pocket of the sleeve - this is how they would be sold and the owner would remove the belt when ready to use the kimono.  It is still in its original plastic bag which is printed with “Murai & Co. Shinmonzen St. Kyoto. Japan.”  I haven’t been able to find anything on the retailer, but Shinmonzen St. is now known for its antiques shops.  The silk is in a cream white tone and is hand embroidered with a floral design in pink, green, white, grey and gold.  Most of the embroidery is on the back with the front having just a bit at the upper shoulder area, very tasteful.  The label reads “100% Silk Made in Japan”.

Sizing: This silk kimono should fit a medium size to a large size - please rely on the following exterior measurements for fit, taking the style of the silk kimono into account (compare measurements with a similar kimono that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):

Shoulders: 48” across the top including the sleeve tops

Sleeves:  13” long from shoulder/sleeve seam

Bust:  50” around, taken under the arms, with a normal overlap

Waist:  Meant to be cinched with the sash belt

Overall length:  54”, measured flat

Condition:  As mentioned, this silk kimono looks unused, still has original folds and was well stored over the years.  I guess that this lady bought it more as a souvenir and never got around to using it.  The original bag for this silk kimono, however, is torn, and starting to become brittle due to its age.

This is a gorgeous silk kimono - really lovely, very unusual to find an unused piece like this!
