This is an exceptional quality vintage mens 100% cashmere coat or overcoat made in France by luxury brand Zilli.  Zilli was founded in 1970 by Alan Schimel, after his acquisition of an Italian tailor in Lyon.  The brand has become one of the most expensive in the world, counting amongst its customers John Lennon and John Wayne, and the rich and powerful - Russian oligarchs, Middle Eastern sheiks and CEOs of corporations.

The label on this coat identifies its style as “Continental”, made of 100% cashmere and with a 100% silk lining.  The lining is printed with a figural head cane pattern, and although not identified as such, most likely sourced from French silk house Hermés.  The label states that the coat was made for Brisson & Brisson of Montreal - Brisson & Brisson was an exclusive men’s boutique frequented by Montreal’s power elite, including the former Prime Minister of Canada, Pierre Elliot Trudeau.  There is the number “2001” handwritten on the tailor’s label - I believe that Brisson & Brisson was closed shortly after 2001, so it is possible that that is a date.  The coat is made in a classic relaxed style, somewhat trench coat like, with wide lapels that could be folded over under the wide collar although there is no button closure (see photos), padded shoulders, raglan style sleeves, six button double breasted closure, button down belts at the cuffs, slash pocket at either side and a 21’’ kick vent at the back.  The back of the coat and the sleeves have a gusset pleat built into them that allow for expansion and more comfortable fit.  It has a matching sash belt that cinches the waist.  The fabric is fairly thick, especially soft and has a beautiful finish - superior quality.

Label: Made in France by Zilli expressly for Brisson & Brisson Montreal

Colour:  The tailor’s label describes the colour as “Marine”, which is a deep navy blue

Sizing: The tailor’s label identifies this as a French size 50, which should be equivalent to a US size 40 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric into account and the length of the sleeves - the original owner was quite tall:

Sleeves:  32” from the neck seam

Sleeve Inseam:  19”

Chest: 52” around, due to raglan cut

Waist: 46” around, should be cinched with the belt

Hips:  50” around

Length: 48”, measured flat

Condition:  It is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, nibbles, stains or odours - this coat looks to have seen little, if any, use and was well stored and cared for over the years.

Excellent quality and classic styling.....this was originally a very expensive coat!
