Vintage Peasant Blouse Eastern European Folk Art Floral Embroidery Top Size 38
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a very pretty peasant blouse that has origins in Eastern Europe. It could be from a number of European countries in that general region, but I believe that these are usually referred to as “Romanian”. The blouse is embroidered with a floral design on its front and mid-sleeve in tones of blue, navy blue, yellow, gold, red and green. The neckline, cuffs and bottom of the blouse have elasticized smocking that is zig-zag stitched in matching colours. The neckline is V notch shaped and the open edges of the blouse are finished in red stitching. It is gathered in tucks under the neckline so that the blouse has a blouson appearance to it. The sleeves are made in a raglan style. There is a small opening at the left bottom side that closes with three snaps.
Age: Difficult to ascertain due to traditional nature of the garment, but I would guess 1960s
Label: None except for a size label
Material: Cotton or cotton blend with wool embroidery
Sizing: Size 38 is indicated, so this would fit a medium size. Please note the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the blouse into consideration:
Sleeves: 25 1/2” from the neck seam, below the smocking, to the cuff
Sleeve inseam: 19 3/4”
Bust: 38" around, taken under the arms, but should fit loosely
Bottom: 24" around, stretches out to 30”
Overall length: 18", measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains, soiling or odors - the blouse looks like it saw little use and was well cared for over the years.
This is a lovely peasant blouse - colourful embroidery, pretty piece!
