This is a beautiful quality mens trilby fedora hat made by the venerable hatmaker P&C Habig of Austria, founded by brothers Peter and Carl Habig in 1862 - they closed in 1985.  This hat is made in black with a narrow width brim, medium height crown that slopes down to the back and is wrapped in green roping with a feather decoration at the side.    The hat is stamped on the upper interior lining with “P&C Habig Vienne Chapeliers 1862 Qualité-Speciale Chapellerie des Lions 15 rue de Rhone Geneve”.  The hat was made for export to the Swiss market and sold at the retailer “Chapellerie des Lions”, located in Geneva.  The leather sweatband is also stamped “P&C Habig Vienne Ventilo Reg. Nr. 282028”.  The sweatband is also gold stamped with the original owner’s initials “E.N.T.”. I think that the hat dates to the late 1950s or early 60s, when trilby hats were popular.  I believe that this should fit a size 7 1/4.  It measures 22 1/2” around the sweatband and 6 3/4” by 7 7/8” across the opening.  The brim measures 1 3/4” in width and the crown has a height of about 5” at the front.  It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear - this hat looks to have seen little use - some yellowing to the plastic cover over the stamping, but otherwise, clean.  This is a top quality hat - nice trilby style by a venerable Austrian hatmaker!
