This is a vintage cream white silk dress or long top that was sold at Henri Bendel, probably during the late 80s. This silk dress has padded shoulders, long sleeves, a rounded quasi sailor collar with chiffon decorative ties at the front.  The long sleeves are made of chiffon while the body of the garment is made of opaque silk.  This silk dress has no closures, so simply slips over the head.  It is unlined.

Label: Henri Bendel New York.  Henri Bendel (1868-1936) was originally a milliner, but began selling clothing during the 1910s.  He sold both custom made and imported French fashion, but starting in 1931, began to sell pret-a-porter in addition to their custom tailored garments.  He was one of the first Americans to import and copy French couture fashion.  The store continued to enjoy a reputation for both quality and style subsequent to Bendel’s death and is still in business today.

Sizing: One size is indicated on this silk dress, and although this should fit a range of sizes, please note the following measurements:

Shoulders:  15” across, seam to seam

Sleeves:  24” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve inseam: 16”

Bust: 44” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 56” around, meant to hang loosely

Overall length: 33”, measured flat at the back

Condition:  It is in very good condition with the exception of a thread pull at the left cuff, probably could be ironed out.  Otherwise, this silk dress is clean and without any pronounced wear, tear, staining or odour.

This is a wonderful silk dress - Henri Bendel sold only the very best quality fashion!
