Vintage Borsalino Fedora 1950s Mens Brown Hat Qualita Superiore Size Small

This is a superior quality (Qualita Superiore) mens fedora hat made by Borsalino of Italy.  The color is a very attractive muted medium brown.    The hat is stamped on the upper interior lining with “Qualita Superiore Borsalino Alessandria Italia Marca Depositata”.  The leather sweatband is also gold stamped “Borsalino Made in Italy Original House Founded in 1857”.  The sweatband is also gold stamped with the retailer’s name “Jess Applegath”, a men’s haberdasher with locations both in Toronto and Montreal.  There was a folded page from a newspaper that was under the sweatband, I guess to tighten the band around the owner’s head - it reports a wrestling event with a date of 1959, so the hat would most likely date to the late 50s (see last photo).  There is a paper label on the interior of the band indicating a size of 6 7/8.  It measures 21 1/2” around the sweatband and 7 1/2” by 6 1/8” across the opening.  The brim measures 2 3/8” in width and the crown has a height of 4 3/4”.  It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear - the whipcord is broken, but the button was saved under the sweatband.  This is a super quality hat by Borsalino, nice color, easy to wear style, great if you have a small sized head.......
