This is an 85% cashmere coat made by Van Gils, a Dutch tailor founded in 1985.
This navy blue blended cashmere coat is made in a relaxed style with shirt type collar, a neckline that can be worn open or closed, a five hidden button closure, raglan sleeves with belted cuffs, diagonal side pockets and a 17” kick vent. The coat cinches at the waist with a matching belt with buckle. The coat is fully lined in navy blue viscose. Difficult to date precisely, but I would think 1970s era.
Label: Original Van Gils
Fabric label: 85% cashmere / 15% nylon. The fabric doesn’t have the softness of pure cashmere, but still is of very good quality.
Sizing: The size label is illegible and although this should fit a size large, about a US 42, please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of this cashmere coat into consideration:
Shoulders: 19” across, estimated due to raglan sleeve
Sleeves: 25 1/2” from the estimated shoulder
Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2” long
Chest: 48” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 48”, meant to be cinched with the belt
Hips: 52”
Overall length: 45“, measured flat at the back from the neck seam
Condition: Although pre-owned, this cashmere coat is in very good condition - it looks to have seen moderate use, no pronounced wear. The right pocket lining has been replaced with acetate rather than cotton.
This is a very nice blended cashmere coat, interesting relaxed style!
