Vintage 70s Corduroy Mens Trench Coat Overcoat Samuelsohn American Hustle Style

This is a wonderful corduroy trenchcoat style coat dating to the 1970s, very similar to one worn by Bradley Cooper in American Hustle, although not identical.  The coat has many of the design elements of a true trench coat: epaulettes on the padded shoulders, a rainguard across the back and a button down guard at the right chest, military type lapels, vertical slant pocket at either side, matching belt at the waist, button-down belt at each of the cuffs, 6 button double breasted closure and a 21” kick pleat at the back.  The lapel can be worn either tight to the neck or open (see photos) - there is a buttonhole on the each lapel, but no corresponding button, although one could be affixed if desired.  The belt has tongue holes, but there is no belt buckle - I’ve posed it, and it could be used, simply as a sash belt.  The coat is fully lined in rayon satin.  The corduroy is made of 100% cotton. 

Label:  Samuelsohn.  Samuelsohn was founded in 1923 by Lesser Samuelsohn, who moved to Montreal from New York - the business has thrived and expanded over the years, and is now a $15 million business.  Samuelsohn is known as a quality maker - some well known luxury brands contract manufacturing out to them.

Union label:  ACWA, used between 1962 and 1976

Sizing: The size label reads 40, so this should fit a medium size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):

Shoulders: 18” across shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 25 1/2” from shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve Inseam: 16 1/2” long

Chest: 44” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 42”, uncinched

Hips:  46”

Overall length: 45", measured flat

Condition:  Although pre-owned, this coat is in very good condition - it’s obvious that it saw little use, so has no pronounced wear, tear, marking or staining.  The only issue is the aforementioned missing belt buckle and the lining at the right armpit needs a stitching, an easy repair. 

This is a perfect 70s era mens coat - great if you’re trying to re-create the Bradley Cooper role, or if you just like that 70s look!
