Vintage 70s Carven Paris Maxi Dress French Fashion Design M

This is a 1970s maxi dress made by haute couture house Carven Paris using fabric branded Triomphe de Boussac - Triomphe de Boussac was marketed by Marcel Boussac, a wealthy textile industrialist who financed Christian Dior and supplied many of the French haute couture houses with fabric. This Carven Paris dress is printed with a bold floral pattern in tones of light maroon brown and muted orange on white.  It has two wide and long ties affixed along the top waist that can be posed in different ways - I’ve shown a few ways in the photos supplied, either wrapped around the waist or acting as a shoulder cover. The dress is made with short sleeves, a scoop neckline and has an empire waist.  It has a slightly flared form to the bottom of its length. This Carven Paris dress is lined below the empire waist seam and does up the back with a nylon zipper.

Maker’s label:  Carven Triomphe de Boussac.  There is a “Made in France” label underneath the maker’s label.  Carmen de Tommaso founded her Carven Paris fashion house on the Champs-Élysées in 1945.  She was a master marketer who was one of the first couturiers to offer pret-a-porter.  She retired in 1993 at the age of 84.

Fabric label:  Triomphe de Boussac Tegal Fibre Polyester Melangée.  The fabric is sheer and I believe that Tergal was normally a mix of 80% Terylene polyester and 20% rayon.  

Sizing: Size 40N is indicated on a label on this Carven Paris dress, and although this should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  15” across seam-to-seam

Bust: 36” around, taken under the armpits

Waist: 32” at the empire waist seam

True waist:  can be cinched with the ties

Hips: 38”, meant to fall loosely

Overall Length: 57”, measured flat

Condition: This Carven Paris dress very good condition with no wear, tear, staining, odors or other defect
