This is a vintage 1960s dressing gown / lounging robe made of a woven plaid wool.  It has shawl lapels, defined cuffs, and patch pockets at either side and at the left chest, all trimmed in candy cane striped roping.  It closes with a matching cord rope belt that has bright green tassels.  The plaid checked pattern is in colours of brown, black, maroon, tan and bluish grey.  The cording is in tones of green, brown, white and black.  The dressing gown is unlined.

Label:  Cockatoo Best Quality Made in China.  This dressing gown was made in China during the 60s when they were producing very good quality.  You don’t often see Chinese exports of this era as there was a US embargo on trade, but Canada had established trade with China during the 60s.  This was because there was mass starvation in China in 1960 and Canada came to China’s aid by supplying large amounts of wheat when no one else would help.

Sizing: Size S is indicated on this dressing gown and although this should fit a small size, please rely on the following measurements for fit (note the shorter length sleeves):

Shoulders: 18” across, between shoulder/sleeve seams

Sleeves: 22 1/2” long from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve Inseam: 14 1/2” long

Chest: 47” around, taken under the arms (23 1/2” across pit-to-pit)

Waist: 44” around, uncinched, but meant to be cinched with the belt

Overall length: 41”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam to the hemline

Condition:  This dressing gown is in very clean condition with no noted wear, tear, stains or odour - it looks like it saw little, if any, use.
