This is a vintage mens silk necktie made in Milan, Italy under the “Carnaval de Venise” brand name.  The tie came from an estate that was full of original purchases or gifts that went unused or unopened.  This tie is one of those items, still in its original “Henry Marks” box and obviously was never used. It is very classic, made in diagonal striping in tones of red blended with black, which produces thin red lines, maroon red bands and black bands.  Given its width, I would think that it dates to the late 1950s or early 1960s.  It has the metal “Seta Pura” Italian guarantee affixed to the inside small end and the large end has a label that reads “Carnaval de Venise Milano”.  The tie loop reads “Henry Marks Ltd. Mount Royal Hotel Montreal” and the box is gold stamped “Henry Marks Ltd Glen S Case in The Sheraton Mount Royal Hotel”.  Henry Marks was an important Montreal haberdashery, established in 1902 on St. James St., opening a second store in the Windsor Hotel in 1915, and then re-locating to the newly built Mount Royal Hotel in 1921.  Glen S. Case had a store located on St. Catherine St., established in 1915, and when Henry Marks died during the 1930s, he merged his operation with Marks, and kept the Mount Royal store.  Sheraton bought the Mount Royal in 1950 and operated it until 1973.

This tie measures 51 1/2” in length and 2 3/8” in width at its widest.  It is in like-new condition - you might want to have it pressed to eliminate any creases, but this really isn’t absolutely necessary.

Beautiful quality - very rich looking, great accessory for the right suit, timeless and easy to wear!
