This is a wonderful straw hat dating to the 1950s.  The hat was sold by Anny Gardens, located at 1520 Mountain St., Montreal.  Anny Gardens was at that address only between the years of 1953 and 1958, so the hat dates to sometime between those years.  It has a wonderfully shaped brim - wavy, with a symmetric form that is rounded at the back, angled at the front sides and straight at the front.  The interior has a separate structure that would fit onto the head - it is lined with grosgrain and the interior top is lined with velvet and affixed with the woven label, which reads “Anny Gardens 1520 Mountain St. Montreal”.  The straw is of very good quality and beautiful woven - this is a quality hat.  The opening measures 18 1/2“ around the sweatband, but because the hat sits on top of the head, this should fit a medium sized head.  It measures 15” by 14” across.  It is in very good condition with no wear, tear or soiling - this has been well cared for over the years.  There is no decoration on the hat, but I probably wouldn’t add anything to it - the quality of the straw and the form of the hat should be admired without distraction.  Nice 50s summer hat!
