This is a very chic 50s era skirt suit in a brown wool fabric with brown velvet collar.  The wool is very soft, so possibly either cashmere or French Blin & Blin, really exceptional quality.  The jacket has padded shoulders, high set rounded lapels onto which the velvet collar sits, and a four velvet covered button closure.  It has long sleeves with notched cuffs and a velvet trimmed curved pocket built onto either lower side.  It is tailored to accent the waist.  and is fully lined in a brown satin fabric and is hand finished.  The skirt is made in a pencil skirt style with a below the knee/upper calf length with three pleats at the bottom back.  I believe that it dates to the early 50s as there are stylistic elements typical of 1940s design.

Makers Label: Meme Dysthe.  Dysthe was a Montreal based fashion designer of Norwegian origin, active during the 1950s.  She immigrated to Montreal in 1950.  She used imported French fabrics and had a Danish weaver as well as traditional old school tailors who were instrumental in the creation of her garments.  She sold through a high-end Montreal department store, Henry Morgan (Morgan’s) as well as boutiques.  Her garments were priced in the $200 to $300 range, during the 1950s, which was a considerable amount of money at that time.  Suits were considered her specialty.
