This is a very nice quality vintage 1950s cashmere coat, loomed in England in a sandy beige colour tone.  This 1950s cashmere coat features rounded notched lapels and inset raglan style sleeves that are cut full with turned cuffs.  It has rounded side pockets built into either side, delineated by raised seams that follow the sleeve down the side to around the pocket.  This 1950s cashmere coat is cut with a wide flare down to an ankle length hemline so that is falls in drapes and has lovely movement.  It is lined in a champagne coloured woven fabric that I believe is rayon.  This 1950s cashmere coat has no closures and so simply overlaps at the front.

Label: Gainsborough Cashmere Loomed in England.

Retailer’s label:  Van Geun Inc. Imported Pure Wool 2017-19 Peel St., Montreal - Van Geun was a high end importer and retailer centrally located in Montreal.  This is the standard Van Geun label, which states Imported Pure Wool, but I believe that the fabric on this 1950s cashmere coat is cashmere.  I must admit that it is not as soft as modern cashmere finishes, but I’ve had other vintage cashmere garments that have a pebble finish like this one.  In any case, obviously a quality fabric.

Sizing: No size is indicated on this 1950s cashmere coat,  and although it should fit a large size, please note the following measurements for fit, taking the cut and thickness of the fabric into account:

Shoulders:  19” across seams

Sleeves: 24” from the seam with the cuff turned - the cuff has a width of 2 1/2”

Sleeve Inseam:  15”

Bust: 50” around, taken under the arms, depending on overlap

Waist:  54” around, depending on overlap

Hemline:  72” around, opened up flat

Length:  47”

Condition:  The 1950s cashmere coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odors - there are a couple of tiny black specks in the fabric (see last close-up photo) that I'm fairly sure are original to the weaving of the fabric.  This looks like it was very well cared for over the years

This is a very nice quality 1950s cashmere coat from a high-end Montreal retailer....understated elegance, easy to wear.....
