Vintage 1940s Raccoon Fur Coat Dated 1946 Ladies Size M

This is a vintage 1940s raccoon fur coat dating to 1946.  This 1940s raccoon fur coat features late art deco styling - note the geometric patterning of the pelts and the angular line of the coat.  It has padded and squared shoulders, wrist length sleeves and closes in a number of ways - the first photo shows only the lower hooks and eyes done up, which forms folded panels at the centre front. The second photo shows the coat closed with a bakelite button and loop to the left side above the waist, which creates a folded over look. The third photo shows this 1940s raccoon fur coat with the same button closure, but with a hook and loop closure added that closes the neck.  The coat has a slash pocket at either side and is lined with a satin rayon fabric at the upper and tartan wool cloth over the lower.

Label: Joncas Furs Limited with the original owner’s name and address in Montreal along with the date of 14-8-46 (August 14th, 1946). 

Sizing: As this 1940s raccoon fur coat was custom made, no size is indicated, and although 1940s raccoon fur coat should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit (compare measurements with a similar raccoon fur coat that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment and thickness of fur into account):

Shoulders: 18”, estimated

Sleeves: 22” from the estimated shoulder / 31” from the mid neck

Sleeve inseam: 16”

Chest:  42” around, taken under the arms - 21” across pit-to-pit

Waist:  46” around

Hips:  48” around

Overall length:  39”, measured flat

Condition:  This 1940s raccoon fur coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear except for minor discolouration to the satin lining.  Raccoon tends to be a fairly robust fur - there are no splits or repairs to the fur pelts and the fur appears fresh - I’m sure that this was kept in cold storage. .
