This is a wonderful 3 piece ensemble consisting of a bolero jacket, a skirt and a matching hat.  I believe that the outfit dates to the late 1930s, but it is possible that it dates to the 1940s.  The pads in the bolero jacket are more consistent with 40s fashion, although pads in shoulders had been used during the 30s.  The skirt appears to me to be more in line with 1930s fashion as does the style of the hat.  The jacket has no closures and has a rounded cutaway, with shorter body and full length sleeves.  The skirt is made with a gathered middle panel and the skirt flares out to a wide, flowing lower panel.  The skirt closes at the back with a metal zipper and is decorated with three green bows down the back.  The hat is made in a “half-hat” style, kind of like a wide bandeau that covers half the head.  It is made in matching colours of grey and green.  The blouse is not included.

Label: No label - probably seamstress made.  The hat bears the name of the milliner “Haute Mode Flore Deschamps 276 Mont Royal E Montreal”.  According to historical sources, during the 1930s that address was attributed to “Salon Flora”, but in 1939, it started to be attributed to Miss Flore Deschamps.

Material: Wool crepe, nice quality

Sizing: No size is indicated, as it is custom made.  Still, this should fit a small to medium size.   Please note the following measurements, taking the style of the outfit into account:

Jacket:

Shoulders: 16 1/2” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 24” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17” long

Bust: 37” around, taken under the arms, with a small centre gap

Bottom: 35” around

Overall length: 15”, measured laying flat

Skirt:

Waist: 25”

Hips: 35”-36” around

Hemline:  82” around

Overall length: 31", measured laying flat

Condition:

The outfit is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odors.  The hat has a bit of soiling to the interior edge but one should be able to clean this up somewhat if it bothers you.  Otherwise, the outfit looks to have seen little use and was well cared for over the years.

This is a very cute outfit….fun to find complete with hat!
