1970s Vintage Duffle Coat Green Wool Blend Simpsons Size 44

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a 1970s vintage duffle coat, aka toggle coat, made in a striking green wool blended fabric.  This vintage duffle coat has four peg “toggle” closures, hence the name “toggle coat”.  In addition to the toggles, it closes with a double pull large tooth vinyl zipper.  It has a hood and a neck bridge affixed under its collar and an epaulette on either shoulder. There is a large patch pocket at either side and there is a half belt with toggle button at either sleeve cuff.  The interior of this vintage duffle coat is lined in plaid cotton.

Label: Simpsons.  Simpson was a department store chain founded in Canada in 1916.  It was bought by Hudson’s Bay in 1978 and its stores phased out over the course of the 1980s.

Content label:  Shell 72% wool 28% viscose. Lining 100% cotton Made in China.  This vintage duffle coat was made at a time when China was not mass producing garments and quality was actually quite good.

Sizing: Size 44 is indicated, and although this vintage duffle coat should fit a large size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account:

Shoulders:  20 1/2” across, from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves:  26” long from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam:  18”

Chest: 50” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 52” around

Length: 39” at the back from the neck seam

Condition:  This vintage duffle coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, soiling, staining or odour.  The top pull of the zipper has been replaced and there is a tiny surface nibble to the upper right sleeve, really very minor (see last close-up photos).  Otherwise, this duffle coat looks to have seen little use and has been well kept over the last 50 years

The colour is wonderful on this vintage duffle coat - sure to be noticed!
