This is a collectible copy of Ted Saucier’s Bottoms Up book, a legendary mid-century cocktail guide first published in 1951. This edition is the first edition, fourth printing (revised), issued in October 1952 by Greystone Press, New York. Rich with humour, recipes, and risqué full-colour pin-up illustrations by eleven of America’s top commercial artists, the book is a snapshot of postwar cocktail culture and visual design.
The Bottoms Up book features over 260 pages of drinks, from classics to forgotten gems, as well as tips, glassware guides, and wine commentary by Claude C. Philippe. The standout pin-ups—by artists such as Russell Patterson, Bradshaw Crandell, and John La Gatta—remain a hallmark of the Bottoms Up book's enduring appeal.
This copy retains its illustrated boards and is in very good condition, with the only damage being to the clear cocktail glass printed plastic overlay to the hardcover - it is torn at the bottom back and missing the top part at the back.
Whether you’re a collector, cocktail enthusiast, or design aficionado, the Bottoms Up book is an essential addition to any library.
