Vintage 1950s Beaded Sweater Bronze Leaves on Black Lambswool Ladies Size 38

This is a very nice quality sweater beautifully decorated on the front with bronze and gold beads to create the impression of grapes, leaves and vines.  The rest of the sweater is decorated with sparsely spaced beads overall.  The sweater has a stiff, narrow standing collar.  It is made in a cardigan style and closes with eight hooks and eyes down the front.  It has a notch at the bottom of either side. The opening is edged with yellow satin.  The sweater is fully lined with black viscose rayon. 

Age: late 1950s / early 1960s

Label: None except for the size label of 38.  I suspect that this sweater was made in British Hong Kong due to its style, however, sweaters of this type were also made in Austria and elsewhere.

Material: 100% Wool, most likely a lambswool

Sizing: Size 38 is indicated, so this should fit a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 15” across from seam to seam

Sleeves: 21 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve inseam:  19 1/2”

Bust:  37” around, taken under the arms

Bottom:  38”  around

Overall length:  21”, measured flat

Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, piling, soiling, odour or staining.  I noted a few beads missing, very hard to see. This looks to have been well cared for over the years.

This is a very nice quality sweater - Hong Kong produced excellent beaded garments during this period.
