Vintage Betsey Johnson Silk Blouse - 1970s - Betsey Bunky Nini Label Size S / M

$110.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

I acquired this blouse from a lady who told me that she bought this blouse from the Betsey Bunky Nini boutique close to when the store was first opened. This is a beautiful quality blouse in 100% pure silk with lace trim. The blouse is made in a plain ivory white color. It has a squared neckline and raglan style blouson sleeves that do up at the cuff with a shell button. The only opening is at the neck, so the blouse has to slip on over the head as there are no other closures - please take this into account when considering size.

Age: early 1970s

Label: Betsey Bunky Nini. Betsey Bunky Nini was a boutique founded in 1969 by Betsey Johnson, Anita Latour and Linda Mitchell. It was located on 53rd street, between 2nd and 3rd avenues, on New York's Upper East Side. Betsey Johnson had been the in-house designer for Manhattan boutique Paraphernalia before opening Betsey Bunky Nini. She was immersed in New York counterculture, briefly married to Velvet Underground bassist John Cale and involved in the scene surrounding Andy Warhol and The Factory - she used Edie Sedgwick as her model.

Color: Cream/Ivory white

Material: 100% Pure Silk

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this should fit a small to medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, keeping in mind the style of the garment:

Shoulders: 17" across - estimated, due to raglan cut

Sleeves: 26 1/2" long - from estimated shoulder, pulled straight

Bust: 46" around, taken under the arms - please note that this is meant to be fit loosely

Waist" 40" around

Overall length: 26", measured flat

Condition:

The blouse is in very good condition with the exception of a light grayish mark and some moisture stain outline at the right underarm and above. I've washed this blouse and treated the area somewhat but did not want to be aggressive with it due to the silk fabric. I would still say that the blouse is wearable as is, but further work on the stain would be needed if you are not comfortable with any defect. Due to the rarity of this piece, a small condition problem like this should be tolerated.

This is a beautiful quality silk blouse – this is a true fashion collector's piece, from early in Betsey Johnson's career.........
