This is a wonderful brutalist pendant necklace signed by Montreal jeweler Guy (Gilles) Vidal. It is made of pewter with electroplated silver and is cast as an irregular square in different heights and textures rounded at the center with a brass colored “ball” protruding at the right center. It is signed by the backside with a stylized GV, which dates the pieces to the 1960s. The pendant measures 1 1/2” in width by 2 1/4” in height, including its top stem. The chain measures 20 1/2” around. The necklace is in very good condition except for a tiny pinprick spot at the lower right where the silver plate is flaked, really doesn’t detract from the piece. Please ignore any colored reflections in the silver. Examples of Vidal’s work are difficult to come by - he and Robert Larin are two Canadian jewelry designers who worked in similar metal and had similar designs during the 1960s and 70s....this is a very interesting piece....
