Vintage Borsalino Featherweight Fedora Gran Lusso Club Mens Hat Large Size 7 3/8

This is a fine quality mens fedora hat made by Borsalino of Italy.  The color is a very attractive deep eggplant brown, quite unusual.  The hat is gold stamped on the upper interior silk lining with “Club Borsalino Alessandria Italia Marca Registrata Gran Lusso”.  That area is covered with protective plastic, which could easily be removed if desired.  The leather sweatband is also gold stamped “Borsalino Grand Prix Paris 1900 Antica Casa Fondata Nel 1857”, “Club Featherweight” and “Ibbas v. Barberini 76 Roma” and with the original owner’s monogram initials “L.S.M.”.  Difficult to date precisely, but most likely late 50s, early 60s, although I’m not sure.  The cloth label states a size 6, but this is some type of antiquated sizing system used by Borsalino.  There is a paper label under the sweatband that reads “T2139 29740 Morello 26”.  It measures 23 1/8” around the sweatband and 8” by 6 3/4” across the opening, so this should fit a men’s large size, 7 3/8.  The brim measures 2” in width and the crown has a height of 4 3/4”.  It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear except for a couple of small stains to the silk lining. quite minor.  The hat would benefit from a professional cleaning although it is perfectly usable as is - a professional treatment, however, would make this fedora look fabulous.  This is a super quality hat by Borsalino, attractive color, easy to wear style and super light, weighing 3 oz.  Extra soft and supple felt, gorgeous!
