This is a high quality men’s cream coloured off-white dinner/tux jacket made by the venerable Paris fashion house H. Creed & Co.  James Henry Creed, an Englishman, founded the Paris fashion house in 1760 as a tailoring firm - it became renowned during the 19th century under Henry Creed as supplier to Queen Victoria and Empress Eugenie, who bestowed a Royal Warrant upon the firm.  During the 1970s, it became a perfume house, which it remains to this day.

The jacket has medium width shawl lapels and closes with a single mother-of-pearl shell button at the front.  The shoulders of the jacket are padded the sleeves have four shell buttons at either cuff.  There is a jetted pocket at either side (no flap) and a pocket at the left chest.  The jacket has a 10” vent at the back and is fully lined with an off-white rayon fabric.  It has four interior pockets, two larger and two small pockets.  The label appears through a cut-out in the lining at the lower left front.  A theatre ticket from Nice, in the south of France, was found in the pocket.

Age: 1972.  The tailor’s label on the interior pocket dates the jacket to January of 1972

Label: H. Creed & Co. 7 rue Royale_Paris

Material: Wool gabardine

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a size 40 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):

Shoulders: 19 1/2” across shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 26” from shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18 1/2” long

Chest: 44” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 42”, around

Overall length: 31 1/2”, measured flat

Condition: This jacket has one tiny defect - a small hole to the top fabric at the left shoulder/sleeve seam (see last close-up photo).  I’m fairly sure that this could easily be repaired by a competent seamstress.  I think that it was caused by a plastic price barb.  Otherwise, the jacket is in very good condition without other wear, tear or soiling - this jacket has been very well cared for over the years.

This is a quality dinner jacket from a high-end Parisian tailor, made just before becoming a perfume house.
