Vintage 1950s Coat Overcoat Topcoat Kashmalam Loomed in England Mens Size L

$225.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage mens wool coat made in England, dating to the 1950s.  It has high set notched lapels, a three button front, squared padded shoulders, vertical side pockets, single button turned cuffs and a 17” center vent at the back.  The coat is half lined in a grey coloured satin rayon fabric that is backed with a chamois lining for extra protection against wind at the back.  There are two inner pockets.  The fabric is beautifully woven in a combination of black, grey and blue colours in a “streaked” pattern (see last close up photo).  The fabric has a beautiful finish.

Label: Kashmalam Loomed in England.  I’m not sure as to what “Kashmalam” is - obviously wool based, but perhaps blended with some cashmere, excellent quality no matter what.  I haven’t been able to find anything on this Kashmalam fabric other than a 1957 ad from an Ottawa newspaper.

Sizing: The coat is has no size label, but should fit a size large either 42 or 44 long - note the sleeve length.  Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account as well as whether you may want to wear a suit jacket underneath:

Shoulders:  20 1/2” across, from one shoulder/sleeve seam to the other shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves:  26 1/2” from the shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam:  17”

Chest: 48” around

Waist: 48” around

Hips: 50” around

Length: 47”, measured flat

Condition:  It is in beautiful condition with no signs of wear, tear, stains or odours - really, I don’t think that this coat saw much, if any, use at all.  The fabric has a beautiful finish to it - except for a few very light spots to the lining along the bottom vent, really nothing, this is very clean.

Unusual to find a coat of this age in this beautiful condition - lovely quality fabric and great 50s look!
