This is a vintage nurses cape that is made of two layers of wool - a navy blue exterior with a red wool interior.  Due to its length and the deco appearance of the HDM crest, I believe that this nurses cape dates to the 1940s.  I’ve included a photo from 1943 of military uniforms, including a nurses cape for women - note that either nurses cape shown is in a longer length and similar in construction to this one.  The neck closes with a hook and eye and there are two pairs of buttons at the upper bodice, but only one fabric bridge - only one is needed as the neck closure in conjunction with the lower buttons keeps the cape well secured.  There are also two buttons at the interior bottom right and one button at the left - I think that you could store the bridge on the two buttons, or bridge the bottom as desired.  There is only one small pocket on the interior, none on the exterior.  I don’t known what the HDM stands for, but I would assume the hospital where the original owner worked.

Label:  None.  It appears that the original owner’s name label was removed.

There is no size label and although it should fit a medium size, please note the measurements provided.  Measurements are as follows:

Shoulders:  16”-17” estimated

Bust:  50” around, has to accommodate the arms as well

Length:  37” long from the back neck seam to the bottom

This nurses cape is in very good condition with the exception of a 1/4” tear and tiny pinhead sized hole at the left side, not at all noticeable - I found it by looking at the blue layer with lighting behind it.

This is a wonderful vintage nurses cape - lovely quality wool!
