This is an early 1930s winter coat made of black wool with fur covered collar. The coat closes to the left with four buttons. The collar can be worn in a number of ways (see photos), and the neckline can be closed using the fifth button that is placed higher up. The back of this 1930s winter coat has a Y shaped double seam and the sleeves have seams near the cuffs, giving the sleeve some curvature. Each cuff is decorated with three buttons - unfortunately, the bottom button on the left cuff is half missing. The coat is fully lined in black silk. The wool is somewhat thick, definitely meant for winter wear.
Age: early 1930s
Label: No label on this 1930s winter coat - looks to be custom made as the lining is hand finished
Sizing: There is no size label on this 1930s winter coat and although this should fit a small to medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric and style of this 1930s winter coat into account:
Shoulders: 15 1/2” across the top from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 24 1/2” long from shoulder/sleeve seam following the contour
Sleeve Inseam: 16 1/2”
Bust: 37” around
Waist: 37” around
Hips: 40” around
Overall Length: 43”, measured flat
Condition: This 1930s winter coat is in very good condition with only minor issues - the aforementioned broken button on the cuff and a small split in the lining (see last close-up photo) that should be sewn or patched to stop further splitting. The fur is old, so there are a few thinning spots, but generally in good shape. This coat was stored in mothballs for many years, but has been aired, so that I can no longer detect odour.
This is a rather rare example of an early 1930s winter coat as pieces of this age and type are getting very difficult to find - beautiful tailoring, very flattering, and sure to be noticed!
