Vintage 1960s Nelly de Grab New York Metallic Brocade Skirt 28 Inch Waist

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage 60s era skirt made by New York based designer Nelly de Grab.  Nelly de Grab was of Austrian descent, married into a well to do Czech family, but was forced to flee Czechoslovakia due to WWII.  She eventually landed in New York City where she established a very well regarded fashion business, supplying separates to high end retailers such as Peck and Peck.  This skirt probably would have originally had a matching jacket as de Grab primarily produced mix and match separates, although I have seen dresses.  The skirt closes with a nylon zipper at the left side and is made with a flare to the bottom.  It has a single pocket built into the right side.  The fabric is fabulous - a brocade material in tones of pink, with some black, infused with metallic gold threading throughout.  The skirt is lined in pink acetate.

Label:  No label, just Nelly de Grab printed twice on each of the two hanger loops.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Waist:  28”-29” around

Hips:  42”, should fall loosely

Hemline:  62” around

Overall length:  38”, measured flat

Condition:In very good condition with no wear, tear or staining.  The lining is hanging down below the hemline slightly - probably this was dry cleaned and the brocade shrank slightly compared to the lining.  This just need a slight adjustment, easy for a seamstress.

This is a very rich looking skirt - beautiful quality brocade fabric is pretty tones, would be gorgeous under lighting!
