Vintage 100% Cashmere Coat Ladies Size 12 Cardinal of Canada

This is an exceptional quality 100% cashmere coat made in Canada by Cardinal Canada.  This ladies’ 100% cashmere coat is made in a relaxed style called “Tara”, with raglan sleeves and flared body.  It has a smallish collar and does up with five buttons down the front with the bottom four hidden by a double flap.  It has a slanted inset pocket at either side and a button-down belt at either cuff.  It is fully lined in black satin acetate.  I believe that this 100% cashmere coat dates to the 1970s, but may have been made during the 80s.     

Label: Cardinal of Canada. Made in Canada.  Cardinal was founded in 1938 with a focus on overcoats, specializing in traditional European methods of tailoring and using high quality fabrics, most often pure cashmere.  The back of the content label states that this 100% cashmere coat was union made by ACTWU (Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union), formed in 1976 and which changed its name to UNITE in 1995.

Content label: 100% Cashmere.  The fabric is of a medium weight, and should provide excellent warmth as cashmere is a warm fabric even when not particularly thick.  It is extremely soft and has a beautiful nappe (finish).  The lighter weight makes this a comfortable coat to wear.

Sizing: The size label on this 100% cashmere coat reads 12R, but please rely on the following exterior measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric and style of the coat into account (compare measurements with a similar coat that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):

Shoulders: 18” across approximate - difficult to measure due to raglan cut

Sleeves: 24” from approximated shoulder - it measures 33” from mid neck seam to cuff

Sleeve inseam: 16 1/2”

Bust:  52” around, taken under the arms, 26” across pit-to-pit, meant to be loose due to cut of sleeve

Waist:  48” around

Hips:  52” around

Overall length:  54”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam

Condition:  This 100% cashmere coat is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odour.  This 100% cashmere coat looks like it saw very little use and was well stored.
