This is a fabulous vintage 1980s black cashmere and wool blended full length coat made in Italy for Ted Lapidus Paris.  The coat is elegantly simple with beautiful draping.  It is made in a full, loose style, very 80s in style, with dropped shoulders and less exaggerated shoulder pads than normally seen on some 80s era coats.  It has narrow lapels that run down the length of the coat.  The sleeves are cut full and can be turned at the end to form a cuff.  There is a pocket built into either side.  The coat is lined only across the upper back.  There is a 21” kick vent at the bottom back.  There are no closures on the coat - you simply fold it over at the front.

Age: 1980s

Label: Ted Lapidus Paris Made in Italy.  Ted Lapidus (1929-2008) worked for the House of Dior from 1949 until 1951, at which point he started his own label.  He opened his haute couture salon in 1957.  He became known for creating the unisex look, high fashion jeans and introducing the military and safari look to haute couture.  He also designed the white suit that John Lennon wears on the cover of the Beatles’ Abbey Road album.  He retired in 1989, his son Olivier taking over the business.
