This is a vintage 70s black velvet coat designed by Marielle Fleury for Rainmaster - Fleury is considered to have been one of the most influential Quebec designers and her designs are becoming quite sought after.  The material is made of a soft cotton velvet and is fully lined in black satin viscose.  This velvet coat is made with peaked lapels and has a flapped pocket at either side, wrist length sleeves (note measurement) and closes with two buttons within a six button double breasted configuration.  Please note that the buttons are not centred, so I suspect that the buttonhole buttons have been moved although I don’t see evidence of this on the fabric of this velvet coat

Label: Rainmaster by Marielle Fleury Made in Canada.  Rainmaster was a trademark of Sport Togs, which hired Fleury in 1969 to design a line under her own name.

Sizing: There is no size tag on this velvet coat, and although this should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  16 1/2” across

Sleeves:  22” long

Sleeve inseam:  15 3/4”

Bust:  38” around

Waist:  36”

Hips:  38” Length:  45”, measured flat

Condition:  This velvet coat is in very good condition with no pronounced marking, wear, tear or stains except for a bit of discolouration to the lining on the underarm pits and slight wear to the elbow area on the right sleeve.  In addition, the stitching on the collar seam is noticeable, being white against black (see photo).  As previously mentioned, the buttons aren’t centred, so you might want to move the ones that button up, but this will make the coat more fitted in the torso area.

Despite the small problems, this is an attractive early 70s era velvet coat by a noted Canadian designer…..
