This is a sixties era wool poncho made by Dewey’s of Vermont.  AG Dewey was founded in 1836 and was the major employer in the Quechee area of Vermont, owning 1400 acres of land and a large mill complex.  In 1953 they employed 200 workers and sourced wool from local sheep, but in 1957 most of the property owned by Dewey was seized by the government for a dam project.  It had been the oldest mill of its kind in the U.S.  They re-located to Hartford, but eventually closed doors in 1972.

The poncho has an opening at the top for the head and a fringed edge.  It is woven in a checkerboard pattern in tones of orange red, grey and brown and combinations thereof.

Material: Wool

Sizing: This should fit a range of sizes, but please note the following measurements for fit:

Sides: 34” long, taken from the edge of the head opening 

Front: 38” at the front down the centre

Condition:  It is in very good condition - no pulls, wear, tear, holes, stains, odour or other defect

This is a wonderful quality wool poncho - perfect 60s look and a nice piece from a historic Vermont mill!
