This 1950s straw hat is made in a bucket form with a fairly tall crown and a downturned brim that is tacked to the crown at the back.  It is decorated with a large black velvet bow at the front of the crown.  The interior band is made of black velvet and the hat also has an elastic band that helps to secure the hat on the head.  It should fit a small sized head as the opening measures about 21 1/2” around.

This is a beautiful quality hat, made by venerable Spanish milliner J Marti y Marti S.A.  I have not been able to find out much about this milliner, but I do know that they were in business at least at the turn of the century.  In any case, this hat came from a very wealthy estate, and it certainly is a high-end hat - please view the close-up photo of the weave of the straw on the top of the crown.   I can see Audrey Hepburn in a hat like this, it has that very sophisticated 1950s Vogue look to it.

This is a striking hat - it is getting increasingly difficult to find nice examples like this.
