Vintage 1950s Saks Fifth Avenue Coat Ribbed Wool Ladies Size Large XL

This is a fabulous vintage 1950s era coat sold by Saks Fifth Avenue.  It is made of raised horizontal ribs of wool on a woven cloth base, very striking.  The wool has a “boiled wool” texture and is in a brown colour that is peppered with a black colour.  The coat is very stylish with a shoulder width pointy collar and high set pointy lapels, full cut dolman styled sleeves with pointy turned cuffs and panels at the front defined by raised edges running down either side.  It closes with two large faux tortoiseshell bakelite buttons at the neckline.  There is decorative belt at the back, held together by a button matching the ones at the front.  The back drapes beautifully.  The collar can be worn up to protect the neck or simply to create a different look (see close-up photo).  It has a pocket built into either side, hidden by the raised edge.  The coat is fully lined in black acetate with a wool interlining to provide additional warmth.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a large to extra large size - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the wool into account:

Sleeves:  24” from the aforementioned back seam

Sleeve Inseam:  17”

Bust: 54” around, meant to hang loose

Waist: 52” around

Hemline:  56” around

Bottom:  98” around, fully extended

Length: 43 1/2”, measured flat

Condition:  It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, odors or stains - the only defect is a hole to the seam on the interior of the right pocket lining, an easy repair.  This coat was well stored over the years and looks like it saw little use.

These type of 50s era coats are very difficult to come by now - this one is a beauty!
