This is a wonderful 1940s gabardine trench coat. This 1940s gabardine trench coat has many of the details typical of a classic trench - it has wide notched lapels, squared padded shoulders, front and back rain flaps, button down shoulder epaulettes, buckled belts at the sleeve cuffs and a belt at the waist. It has a six leather button double breasted front and a diagonal pocket built into either side. The back has a 16” kick vent at the bottom centre. It is fully lined in a satin fabric.
Label: Styled by Crown Waterproof Montreal Gabardine A Showerproof Garment. The neck loop reads Rainwear of Distinction
Color: Light greyish brown
Material: Wool gabardine in a heavier weight, very nice quality
Sizing: No size is indicated on this 1940s gabardine trench coat and although it should fit a medium size, probably a US size 40, maybe a 42 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior:
Shoulders: 19” across shoulder/sleeve seams
Sleeves: 25” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16”
Chest: 46” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 44” around, meant to be belted
Hips: 46”
Overall length: 44 1/2“, measured flat
Weight: 4 lbs. As mentioned, this 1940s gabardine trench coat is quite heavy, a sign of its quality
Condition: This coat is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining or odours but the belt buckle and right cuff buckle have lost most of the leather (see last close-up photo). In addition, the interior cuffs are slipping down a bit - not a major issue, but a couple of stitches would prevent this. Otherwise, this coat has been quite well preserved - difficult to find 1940s gabardine trench coats like this.
This is a great 1940s gabardine trench coat - wonderful 40s style and fabric!
