Vintage 40s Mens Blue Suit Jacket English Custom Tailor Sz M

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a beautifully tailored vintage suit jacket dating to the 1940s.  The suit jacket is made in a navy blue fabric that is woven in a satin check pattern.  The shoulders of the jacket are heavily padded, consistent with 1940s styling, and the suit jacket is made with notched lapels that are fairly wide and elongated.  There is a jetted pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest.  It has a 7” bottom back centre vent.  The suit jacket is fully lined in a navy blue satin rayon fabric.  It has two interior pockets.

Label: Charles Feder 242b Roundhay Road Leeds, 8 Tel. 43335.  I was able to find a Charles Feder, tailor, in the Leeds database.  Feder was born in America in 1864 and listed as a tailor living at 10 Byron St, Leeds in 1890.  Feder would have been well into his 70s or early 80s when this would have been made.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size, probably a US size 38/40,  but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric into consideration):

Shoulders: 19” across shoulder seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 25” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18” long

Chest: 42” around, taken under the arms (usually calculate size 4” smaller than chest measurement)

Waist: 40” around

Overall length: 31", measured flat

Condition: This suit jacket is in very good condition - no pronounced wear, tear, soiling or staining, this looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a wonderful 40s era suit jacket - excellent old school English custom tailoring!
