This is a vintage 1940s tuxedo made by the Montreal manufacturer Fashion Craft Manufacturers Ltd.  Fashion Craft has a place in history due to its efforts, along with the Semi-Ready clothing manufacturing company, to break a general strike by the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America union in 1916 in the Montreal clothing industry.  In the end the workers won a number of concessions and Fashion Craft continued in business at least into the 1960s. This 1940s tuxedo is dated on the tailor’s label as being made on December the 1st, 1940.  It is made in classic form with padded shoulders, faille (fine grosgrain) peaked lapels, a single linked covered button closure and with three covered buttons at either cuff.   The jacket is fully lined in black satin.  The pants to this 1940s tuxedo have a flat front, double button waist closure and a button-up fly.  The wool on this 1940s tuxedo is in a felted finish, more of a winter fabric.
