This plate was originally made circa 1910 and underwent some minor changes, including the orientation of the grapes above Jesuss head. The grapes that are oriented straight down are the latest of the versions. This plate was produced during the 1970s and marketed by Tiara Exclusives of Dunkirk - both Tiara and Indiana Glass were owned by Lancaster Colony. The glass is made in an attractive topaz colour. The plate is made in a rectangular shape and measures 11 by 7. It is quite heavy for its size, weighing 2 lbs and 4 oz. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or wear. It is made in a handled form - the decoration attempts to replicate Asian enamel, ornate and striking, and not the typical floral patterns normally seen on Nippon porcelain vases. The underside of the vase is marked with the green M in wreath Nippon mark of the Morimura Bros., used as of 1911 until about 1918. The vase measures 7 1\/4 in height. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks - there is gold wear to the top rim and handles and it looks like someone tried to touch it up but didnt match gold colour well (see close-up photo). A professional should be able to do much better, but the vase still displays very well as is. There are tiny scratches to the paint on the body of the vase, only in the simulated enamel decoration, visible in the photos - I think that this is original to the making of the piece and an attempt to further create the look of enamel on metal as I cant see how else that this could have happened, especially noting the look of the yellow and white sections as opposed to the blue. There is even a strange line at the collar of the vase, but I did examine the piece with a blacklight and did not see any evidence of a repair, so I assume that this has to do with whatever technique they used to make this vase. The jug measures 8 in height and 7 across from the back of the handle to the tip of the spout. The jug has a small chip at the tip of the spout as well as a Y shaped hairline to the spout - there is also a hairline towards the back top edge (see last close-up photos), The underside has some crazing (see close-up photo) - all of these defects to be expected for a piece of this type and age. White was Stanford White, known for his Beaux-Arts designs for the rich and famous of the Gilded Age, and who gained notoriety after being shot and killed by Harry Thaw, over Whites relationship with Thaws wife Evelyn Nesbit. McKim, Mead and White were responsible for many major commercial and civic projects as well as private residences. Among the many important projects, were the Pennsylvania Station, the Brooklyn Museum, the main campus of Columbia University, the Boston Public University, the renovated West and East wings of the White House, the second Madison Square Garden, the Villard Houses, The Washington Arch, the Bank of Montreal, the Charles Tiffany house and many others. Originally, this set consisted of four volumes, each containing 100 full page plates measuring 14 by 20. Missing from the set is volume 3, which contains plates 200 to 299. These volumes were published by the Architectural Book Publishing Co (Paul Wenzel and Maurice Krakow) of New York in 1915. They have soft covers that have deteriorated over the years, so the folio pages are detached from the spine. The contents, however, are basically in good condition overall - some pages may have small edge tears, chipping, edge toning or moisture staining, but the large majority are clean. Included in the folio sheets are photographs, plans and elevations to scale. Im limited to 10 photos, so cannot show you many of the fabulous plates in these volumes, but these are very interesting architectural plates.
