Antique Handmade Lace Bedspread Fishermans Net Filet Lacis

This is a beautiful handmade lace bedspread made in the Filet Lacis or Filet Lace technique.  You can see that this handmade lace bedspread is hand knotted as there is a knot in each corner of the lace, which is also known as Fisherman’s Net as the lace is made in the same way that fishermen constructed their nets.  The bedspread has a short indented extension at either end of the piece.  The sides have hand knotted tassels along their entire edge.  This handmade lace bedspread is in wonderful condition with only three breaks to the filet (see close-up photos), easily repaired by a competent seamstress. Otherwise, there are no stains or other defects - this was well stored over the years and looks to have seen little, if any, use.  This handmade lace bedspread measures 80” across, exclusive of the fringe, which adds another 9” to either side, for a total width of 98”.  The piece has a length of 88”, including the extensions at either end, which measure 6” in length.  This is a beautiful piece of old handmade lace - you often find machine made facsimiles or modern versions, but authentic old hand knotted pieces are much harder to find, especially in this condition.  This is a beautiful handmade lace bedspread - wonderful for a Victorian bedroom!
