This is a striking piece of mid century EDAG glass made in the form of a bird. The bird is made with a bowl shape with upstretched wings and extended tail. Its hard to know what type of bird that this is supposed to be, but the crest on the birds head and the shape of the face might intend to represent a cockatiel or it may be some invention of the glassblower. The piece is unmarked, but someone has kindly identified this for me as being made by EDAG, Elio Danilo Art Glass. EDAG was founded in Montreal, Quebec by Murano trained Maestro Danilo Pavanello, who became a master glassblower at the age of 14 in Murano. He founded EDAG in 1964 - it closed its doors in 1978. This piece is made of reddish orange glass cased within clear. It measures 15 1/2 in width and 7 1/4 in depth - it has a height of 11 1/2 to the top of the crest - it weighs 5 lbs and 8 oz. Due to its size, weight and fragility, it will be shipped well protected and double boxed. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear. This is a very nice addition to an EDAG collection or simply a wonderful display piece for a mid-century modern decor - fabulous colour and form!
