This is a striking piece of Lorraine art glass made in an orange over lemon yellow colour combination. It is made in the form of a bowl-like cigar ashtray. Lorraine was established in 1962 by Earl Myers, who persuaded 30 glassblowers to emigrate from Murano, Italy to Montreal - it was the closest competitor to Chalet Art Glass, another Canadian glass maker and remained in operation until 1974. This piece measures 11 5/8 by 6 5/8 with a height of 5 1/4 - it is quite heavy for its size, weighing 5 lbs. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear - the base is cut at an angle, but this is original to the making of the piece. Ive felt the entire area with my fingers are there is no surface roughness or damage. This is a very nice addition to a Canadian art glass collection or simply a wonderful display piece for a mid-century modern decor - striking colour and form!
