Vintage Blue Tuxedo Mohair & Wool Tux Jacket w Pants Sz L

This is a wonderful vintage tuxedo, custom tailored in a shiny blue mohair and wool blended fabric. The jacket is made with padded shoulders and has shawl lapels in blue satin and a single satin covered button closure. It has a breast pocket and a jetted pocket at either side, all trimmed in blue satin. The jacket is fully lined. The pants have a metal zipper fly, a double button waist closure and a blue satin stripe down each leg. The legs flare out slightly to the cuff.

Fabric: Due to the sheen, almost certainly a mohair and wool blend - mohair was often used for tuxedos during that time period.
Age: Most likely 1960s due to both style and the materials used. Being South African in origin and custom tailored, it is possible that the tailor would have still have made slightly 60s styled suits into the 1970s, but probably not.
Sizing: Being custom tailored, no size is indicated, and although it should fit a large size, about a US size 42, maybe 44, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the cut of the garment and thickness of fabric into account:
Jacket:
Shoulders: 20” across seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 24” long
Sleeve Inseam: 15”
Chest: 47” around, buttoned, taken under the arms
Waist: 43” around
Length: 29”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam
Pants:
Waist: 36” around
Hips: 45”, should fall loosely
Leg Inseam: 30” long
Length: 40” long, measured flat at the side
Condition: Both pieces are in very good condition, with no pronounced wear, tear or staining except for a brownish stain to the lining, below the tailor’s label (see close-up photo). The satin on the lapels has a bit of a surface impression, probably from pressing, but this is subtle and quite minor, shouldn’t bother anyone too much. This tuxedo has been well cared for over the years.
