This is a wonderful vintage 1970s kaftan and featuring a batik print of Foo Dogs and ladies on cotton - quite ornate and detailed. The label reads “Batik Semar Solo Indonesia”. Batik Semar was founded in 1947 by Somadi and Niniek Elia Kasigit as Batik Bodronoyo but the new name of Batik Semar was adopted in 1966. This vintage 1970s kaftan is very loose fitting, made with no closures so is meant to simply fit over the head. The sleeves are made similarly to those of a kimono, but with angle cut sleeve seams so that there are points at the bottom.
Size: Size L for large is indicated, but please note the following measurements. Laying the shoulders out straight, similar to a kimono, it measures 36” across the top from end to end. The bust area measures 20” across, or 40” around while the waist measures 40” and the hips measure 46”. The length of the garment is 56 1/2“, measured lying flat.
Condition: This vintage 1970s kaftan is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour - this looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
